Conference Day

Parents, you can park free at the city garage on 4th Street at San Fernando, across the street from the library. See the map on the last page of the conference brochure. Please arrive no earlier than 8am, no later than 9am. Your girls will be finished with the conference at 3:30pm. Make sure you have agreed ahead of time on which side of Tower Hall you will meet them.

Girls, when you arrive at San Jose State University on conference day, go to Morris Dailey Auditorium in Tower Hall. Signs will be posted, and we have many volunteer guides to help you find your way around campus throughout the day.

When you first arrive at Tower Hall, stop at the tables in front of the tower. The tables are labeled with letters of the alphabet. Go to the table that is labeled with the first letter of your last name. Your schedule for the day is at that table in an envelope with your name on it. The envelope also contains a map of the campus, a conference evaluation form, and other materials.

Once you have your workshop schedule, go to the snack table and get a muffin and some juice:) You are beginning a busy, fun day!

The conference begins with an opening welcome and presentation. The rest of the day is devoted to workshops. Each workshop is a small class involving hands-on activities led by women who have careers in math, science or engineering. All workshops provide an opportunity for you to experiment in a specific area such as computer science or medicine. You will attend three workshops. We will provide lunch.

To attend this conference, you must be mature enough to follow instructions and directions provided by signs and guides on campus. Also, you must attend all the events scheduled for you, including lunch, and remain on the SJSU campus from 9 a.m. until the conference ends at 3:30 p.m.

Goals of the Conference

The annual conference is a great success at encouraging young women's interest in science and math.

The goals of the EYH conference are:

Resources

See this SJSU EYH site to get the 2008 student packet, the 2008 adult packet, and links to many other great resources. The student packet is filled with information and fun activities.

See this website list for links to cool science sites and other sites of interest to girls.

See From the Archives below for descriptions of previous conferences.

Conference Workshops

Each workshop is a small class or discussion involving hands-on activities led by women who have careers in math, science, or engineering. All workshops provide an opportunity for the girls to experiment in a specific area, such as computer science or medicine.

Workshop presenters give their workshop three times during the day, and each girl attends three different workshops. The girls who participate in these workshops are in grades 6-9.

The conference is an exciting day for everyone. You as a workshop leader or other volunteer can have a strong positive influence on the futures of many young women.
